MY LIFE IN THE WORLD OF HOME DECOR ACTUALLY BEGAN
IN MY FIRST "REAL" HOME, MY BASSINET.
As a baby, my mom wanted to visually stimulate me with colorful moments, so she lined my crib with the artwork of my siblings. I think it worked! To say I am driven by colorful, vibrant surroundings would be an understatement. Had my fine motor skills been better developed, I would have rearranged that art collection many times!
Fast forward a few years and I would win first prizes in “Visual Presentation” at the State Fair—3 years in a row; hand-sew my own “Gina” pillows for my bed; design my own wallpaper for my room; arrange bookshelves and dictate my mom’s holiday decor. It was safe to say a pattern was forming—pun intended—for the creation of my barn sales and products for Homegirl.
After graduating with a liberal arts degree, I worked in corporate communications & operations for a major fashion retailer, eventually moving into a new corporate position as a visual designer with another major retailer. Both of these opportunities allowed me to learn the business.
Then came life—or actually, two lives, my gorgeous daughters, Lila and Edie. I was busy and happy, but I was driving my husband, Brian, nuts with my pent-up creative energy! He staged an intervention and we forged a plan with me to sell my finds at a local vintage store I loved ❤️
We moved to Hudson (OH) in 2006 and I began my epic barn sales in 2008. It’s from this 199-year home—lovingly shared by my family with our two Sheepadoodles, Nola & Winnie, and our all-white cat, Dos—where I collect vintage finds to sell, curate a collection of new products to recommend or design products for Homegirl and the small batch handmade clothing collection for Midge.
Thanks for coming along for the ride, Homegirls! Catch ya on the flip side…
